A new approach to the old web directory! All ad spaces are 're-saleable' so that advertisers can make money on my site. What do you think???
No, not really... all ad's are categorized so that the site itself has a purpose (i.e. it's a web directory), when a category 'sells out' the existing advertisers may auction their space to make money on their investment. This process should also filter out the BS sites as time goes by, so only the cream of the crop will remain (or just BS sites owned ny rich guys)
Pricing could slow your progress. The pixel sites got there buzz and momentum with a low entry price. You could make smaller cells and sell more of them.
Maybe so...but there's plenty of directories out there charging the same or more for links that have no opportunity to make money - $100 will always seem expensive for the first few advertisers, but when the ball gets rolling...
So if I buy a top level category for $100 and 100 sub-categories are sold then I can sell my $100 spot? If 100 sub-categories don't sell I just have my $100 spot, correct? And when I sponsor a category, do I just get an advert in the pop up graphic or am I on the sub-category pages?
There are no-subcategories... 100 categories, 100 links in each. If you were to buy in the category 'Casinos', you would have the option to auction your space once the casinos category has sold-out. The categories will eventually sell-out, some categories will take longer than others, but I'm very confident that this project will be successful. Convincing the first few advertisers was always going to be hard, but like all of these websites, once people see other people buying it reassures them. Once we have enough advertisers, we're going to add a user login so that the homepage may be customised with the users favourite links. Plus we're looking a t providing each advertiser with 3 deep links that will appear in their pop-up box.
Sorry I forgot the bit about sponsors... they get a link in the category pop-up and an ad banner over the category page. Sponsored ads last for 12 months and are not for resale like the standard ad spaces
I have reviewed the pricing structure, thanks for the feedback! Works like a real stock exchange now i.e. price is based on supply and demand, so the current price has been dropped (dramatically) to just $5. This will be reviewed on an ongoing basis and the ad's will be displayed from top left to bottom right according to the purchase price. This should actually work out quite well... once the auctions start the prospective advertisers will not only be trying to out-bid each other but they'll also be looking to set a new record price so that their ad will be displayed in the best position on the page. Thanks guys, you've given me the new direction the site needed!
