Please give me your feedback on Cavegoat.com, a free classifieds and discussion forums site. I plan to launch the site in about two weeks and still need to upload a logo which is in the works. Thanks in advance.
Looks like a similar, but more aesthetically pleasing version of Craigslist. What will you do to separate yourself from the competition?
I found it very easy to browse, which is certainly a good thing. But I'll have to repeat Sn00py's question: what will you do to separate your site from the competition? Because so far it looks like "just one more classified site," if you know what I mean. I'm not sure it's a good idea to have a forum at this point. Perhaps you believe that by building a community around your site you'll attract more ad posters. However, a blog would be more appropriate at this moment. At least, a blog will never look empty and abandoned if you keep on publishing new posts. On the other hand, a forum *will* look empty and abandoned if you don't have many people posting. To keep a blog alive, you can rely solely on your own efforts; to keep a forum alive, you depend on other people's good will. Can you see the difference? SEO-wise, the site needs more work. The title tag isn't descriptive enough. The H1 tag reads the site's name, "Cavegoat." What does this word mean to anyone searching for classified ads? Nothing. When you upload your logo, make sure to use a good, specific alt tag to describe it. Research appropriate keywords and use them. Good luck!
Seems a bit plain to me. Don't get me wrong, I would rather this than it being too cluttered but I think it could benefit from a nice logo & header along with some pics on the main page. You're on the right track though.
Looks simple and no attractive feature is added in it. Just make the menu into attractive style, it will be better..
One other thing: your color scheme isn't the greatest. I think the combination of brown and goats is infelicitous - I just think of goat-poo, and that's not great for sales.
Very usefriendly. Easy navigation. Maybe I'd suggest getting a new banner. Goat in a cave!!! I have a question, how do free classified sites like this and craigslist make profit? I don't see ads on either...anyone know? Anyway site looks good!
Thanks for the feedback. Craigslist charges for job ads in 18 select cities - $25 in most cities and $75 in SF and for brokered apartment listings in NYC. I plan on using google ads to generate revenue. My intent is to keep the site 100% free even for job submissions.
Quick and easy to read sales site. I like it because all the categories are on the main page. I even like the soothing colors.
hey there aristocrat... i like the new logo however is it just me or does it seem a bit jagged...the lines arent very smooth perhaps some work with the pentool in photoshop would do the trick and avoid cutting it out with the magic wand... that will give it jagged edges like you see there
I agree the edges are jagged ... will try using photoshop's pentool...not sure what the magic wand is...thanks
I downloaded adobe photoshop and used it for this new logo...the tool is pretty easy to use..please give me your feedback on this new logo...I got rid of the jagged edges by using a higher resolution
It's fine if unremarkable, but from a biz model standpoint...how do you get listings? You need to build a better (and not just prettier) mousetrap here.
