    i dont know the exact reason behind banning n all, but i agree that dont compare your or any other bot with "Google Bot". Shawn needs traffic to his forum so Google bot is always welcome. but if other bots are eating up the server resources without any use then its totally fare that that BOT is Banned.

    and again. to Shawn..
    Now u banned that guy. i m sure, if he will not leave this forum as it is. i think he will try to eat up more server resources using few more spammy bots on DP.
    so be careful and prepare your robots.txt file for that :)

    BTW.. funny and interesting thread it is. Let the people come and comment here.

    I hate to take sides on this (and I'm really trying not to) but can you give the IP address or at the very least the class c it was coming from? I ban those from our servers at the routers for not following robots.txt rules.

    I wouldn't worry about it too much... it wasn't a real spider, and was only targeting this site I'm sure. :) Wasn't even targeting threads on this site... just member profiles in sequential order (1, 2, 3, 4... etc...)

    Why would your "spider" want to index every (and only) members? spam... {cough, cough}

    Really shouldn't be too hard. There are hundreds of free proxies and shell account hosts to tunnel through. Create another email account at a free host and you would be set.

    Lol, this has been a good read, and well worth the time..

    I love the playground attitude going on in his posts.. Cut off his nose to spite his face then the whole "My forum will be better than yours" "my bike has dual suspension, yours only has single" "my dad's car costs more than yours" and so on and so forth..

    Shawn... Please let us know if he tries visiting the forum again.. That'd just be the icing on the cake considering he doesn't want it in his "whole life" any more.. >.<
