Please recommend a good free tell-a-friend script

    Make sure you get one that uses captcha.

    just use www.addthis.com - it's iconic now, recognised everywhere and supporting of many services, including bookmark locally, share by email and social bookmarks. oh, and easy to setup and tweak.
