I have been buiilding backlinks for several months. I must have built over 1000 backlinks over the last 3 motnhs and none of them are showing up when I chack my backlinks. I have 3 websites and I do directory submission and blog commenting for backlinks. I use several sites to check the backlinks..... why do they not grow?

Try 5 years. That's how long my site's been plugging at this and I'm still result #412 for my top keyword.

...don't believe anyone who tells you this'll be easy.

I am not sure what you know about or are good at, but if you have some valuable information you would like to share with the world, one thing you could do is write an informative and authoritative article about it. If it is a quality, then, eventually, people will link to it. When you write it, place keyword links to you site at the bottom of the article. Try submitting an informative, useful, original article that you wrote to the article directory in my signature. I would look forward to reading it...:)

May be you need some onsite changes in the page title, url, h1 headers for the keyword you are targetting. It will also depend upon the keyword itself

I somewhat been scared after reading this thread...

anyways, If you can't do it.. I'd reccomend hiring someone more knowledgeable about building links to do it for you..

there are lots of SEO companies out there but it's gonna cost you since SEO ain't cheap.. :)

    @thebitbotdotcom

You must be lost. That is the only useful post and or advice I have read around here in weeks. ;)

I will be 100 y/o and still rambling on about the same thing. Link Wheels and xrummer related plop is not SEO.

@Mugzy.... if you want to pm me a link I will look things over for you and let you know what you are missing. thebitbotdotcom is largely spot on but I will add that producing said copy and then manually getting folks to reference it is the way to go. No need to wait for folks to find it on their own.

Keep in mind you don't want to contact competitor sites. You want to contact sites in a complimentary market or vertical if you will. For instance, I am doing something similar between two sites. One sells cables, one sells gadgets that take said cables. Its a match made in heaven for guest blog posts and high power relevant, in content, merit based links.

    hope that helps,
    Nigel

My best guess is that the directory submission and blog comments aren't indexed in the search engine. You could have 10,000 backlinks, but if Google never stumbles across them then they don't help your site at all.

I suggest that you ping your directory submissions and blog comments daily, this will greatly increase the chance that they are indexed by Google.

1000 backlink for several month I thinks is not natural by google, try to not use quantity but quality, several backlink from High PR site is much better than a load of low PR Site,

Understood. The odd thing is I have lost about 300 backlinks over this period and continue to loose them regularly. Its really strange.

First make sure they are dofollow links ... links with nofollow artibute google will never count .
Second , reciprocal links is useless , don't do it .

THIRD : CONTENT IS THE KING , don't create a backup for your website which is low quality content , if you have high quality content , then backlink process will be easy :) .

How do you do blog commenting? Most of the times, the links will show up in Google Webmaster within two weeks. Do you link to your homepage or the individual page? Do you spam in blog commenting? If so, the moderator may have deleted the comments.
To be frank, 1000 backlinks in 3 months is too little. You could have 1000 links from DP within a month if you really work for it.

Good point however I do not use the site in my signature here. I always use my hompage and I do not spam however I did pay for an xrumer blast recently to see if this would help ...... the backlink didnt go up a bit and I checked the links in the report, they are there just not being picked up or something. My site is here see what your thoughts are.

Don't use directory submissions. I've had some of my websites submitted to god knows how many, and about.. 2 count as backlinks overall. Try Social Bookmarking/Networks, Digg, Reddit, Mixx, Propeller, Delicious, stuff like that. Post something useful on your website, and use alot of Social Bookmarking/Networks to get more people's attention. If you get enough, you'll get a bunch of natural backlinks from good, strong websites and/or forums. It's been done plenty of times.

If you're after votes for the Social Bookmarking/Networks then you should just look around Google/Yahoo for Social Exchange websites, where you bookmark/vote their URL, and they do yours.

Try manually doing social bookmarking for a short while, it pays off, trust me.

Just by byilding links alone you cannot hope to get higher ranking. There are several factors in google algorithm at play, in fact there are more than 200 factors or signals that google watches for in every query and every website that it takes into accoutn when deciding which page to return in the search results!
