Good stuff! that's great to know.

I stopped posting at Sitepoint once they introduced fees to there Market place section but i did continue reading the forums for awhile & was still conducting business, only to later find out fee's were increasing, at that point considering they were raping members for all they & abusing anyone who questioned their policy i left & don't even go there any more:mad:

I'm glad i left though, as i found a better a way better forum (DP) & it isn't because they don't have fees but it helps...

Post count would drop heaps, people would leave in the masses.

I was selling alot of things on the webmaster forum a while ago untill they made some 10 dollar a thread thing, sales and members dropped alot.

Reason I still sell a little bit on here is because their are no fee's and a decent user base.

some one said bumping is a problem lol its not a problem you get infractions if you bump stuff.

I like how you can sell sig links and avators on this forum, not many other forums offer such things this just entices me to post more here then on other forums.

Forget it connections, it is a lost cause. No one gives a rats ass about quality here anymore. Guess that's why 99% of everything sold is junk and serious people go to other places to do their business.

When was the last time you saw a quality site for sale here? Oh, but if you want come crappy MFA site that is 2 weeks old you sure have tons to pick from.

Several ended just a few days ago. VERY high quality sites. I think one sold for $15,000, maybe a little more.

ebay and sitepoint have the same, if not worse, problems. I think DP's main problem is that there aren't subcategories. Adult is the only one. If you look at sitepoint, it has a special WTB forum, turnkey forum, established sites forum....

Here everything is in one forum so it can be more difficult to sift through. But whatever. I got no beefs with it, really. Popularity brings quality & LOTS of problems, lack of popularity just brings problems.

what it boils down to is that nobody is buying that junk and it just keeps getting bumped to the top by the seller.

Agree, fees scare away people and that is the charming of DP, not need of posting fees or "gold membeships" to get into the forums, just quality time and wise posting whenever is possible :)

Not all DP members earn a lot from the B/S/T section and it would be very sad for people who are depending in DP in earning their little revenue. Stricter rules sounds a good and better idea.

I think we at least need a rule where you can't sell anything for under $4.95 unless its a myspace bulliten. And a seperate section in the BST where you post free stuff, you also wouldn't be able to recieve an iTrader from that part of the BST.

I'm glad that this thread was created, it has sparked some good debate.

Obviously there is going to be some kind of trade of between the number of users/thread made and the quality of the threads. It is about getting a balance.

When I first started thinking about it I thought that there is to much "crap stuff" for sell on the B/S/T section. Then i realised that people are buying it. Therefore they are getting a good service from it and it is economically efficient.

We need to move the debate from an area of "crap stuff" being sold to how to stop "pm sent" etc.

    Or do we? ...

Not really, it has been discussed many times before and in my opinion the situation is under control given that this forum is huge.

Sorry if this is a really daft question, but why would the forum become less popular if it costs to post in the buy/sell section? Surely theres just a few people that use that section to sell stuff on here? And I thought this sites main purpose is just a webmaster forum type thing?

Iv mentioned to shawn about creating a small fee 0.10, 0.25 to help with server costs etc... and it got shot down :)

The BIG fees is why I left sitepoint and would NEVER go back, it's out of hand.

Charging $0.10 would COST shawn money depending on payment system. If he used credit cards it would cost at least $0.30 just to run the transaction. So then your small fee turns out to be $1, which will still repel a lot of people and lose Shawn a lot of traffic. Not to mention maintenance/infrastructure costs, headaches, and complaints.

Lol I think you took what I said to literally.

All I meant was a "small" fee, NOTHING compared to SP.
