I have to say that I feel this is a very objective question. What is best for me may not be best for the next guy.

Joomla has it's strengths, as does Wordpress, and Joomla, and Xoops, and... Well, they all have their good points.

I think the choice is best made dependent upon your requirements and expertise.

Custom content types and advanced content handling was the main reason i moved to Drupal. But its very good if you dont need all this.

I personally have worked with joomla on many websites... and i found out to be the best...as it have all mods which is needed by anyone... if you want to start a directory you can if you want to start a auction you can... and if you want to start a portal or blog or whatever you can...

i also see a community builder and youtube mods in joomla... this is the best choice as its easy for the begginers and pro for the masters...

you can handle it way you can... and dis-advantages i didn't found any...

    Hi Infogle,
Is it (Joomla) good for high traffic sites ?
So many people say it really effects the server & causes performance problems when traffic grows.
I would like to hear your experience / opinions.

In fact, above is the main factor why I am hesitating to use Joomla. I really don't want to end up in changing CMS when I do all hardwork and grow my website traffic.

    Hi Vikas,
Can you please PM me or post your Drupal site here.
I liked Drupal, but there are not really good templates.
Moreover, forum integration does not look proper. There are bridges for vBulletin integration, but not really dependable I guess.

    Any opinions on this ?

I have not found any errors in terms of getting more traffic as you stated... as some of my designed websites are getting about a min of 200UV per day and maximum of upto 2000UV per day... if you configure it in the right way it protects the hacking part also... its all in the configuration file and just to mention this that do keep a check that your "PHP register_globals setting is OFF" as this is the biggest threat in joomla as per my experience is concerned....

    Hope this explanation helps.... :)

I thought at first that Exploitation is the main flaw of this CMS. Then my late (after at leat a year of Joomla) security research proved to me that it was my own ignorance of applying proper measures that placed me in that kind of thinking.

I am happy with Joomla as there are so many modules you can use for your own site. Just make sure though that the Components you use is not in the list of Security Risk. :)

    That definitely helps :)

By high traffic, I mean about sites having around 50000 UV per day.

The major drawback I find with Joomla is SEO. It sucks when it comes to that and a lot of the componants/plugins dont really fix this problem. Other than that I believe its the easiest to learn. I have only been using it for less than a year and already I'm able to design websites pretty well on it. Although customizing templates is still a problem of mine.

Joomla is the best CMS can ever get in CMS arena. It has wide variety of extensions, mods, templates for a free of charge.Joomla is coded using object oriented php,so it might have difficulities to customise for newbies. As i believe the main drwaback is that.If it code template driven it will be more popular among newbies.

I think the lowest point in Joomla is the way it handles categories and subcategories, it's very limited. Mainly that's why I'm using Drupal in my new sites, its showing to be more difficult, but more powerful also.

SEO is much harder in Joomla 1.5, 1.0 is ok. I rather use wordpress now for small sites and Joomla for big ones and product systems. I chose Joomla over Drupal because you look at the websites design quality of Joomla's is way better.

yes lucaspal is correct, there are no subcategories for joomla. but you can do sections and reclassify however there are some point you will still need subcategories. i think its the best CMS, aside from the huge community support even if you encounter some drawback or problem there is always a remedy in the community.
