Note: This question is not about the wording of the forum rules, but the real world realities. I've seen many members, both new and old, fitting the words 'look at my sig' into their posts. Do people want this to be allowed? Is it allowed? If you want the secret info, please, check my sig Thanks.
People, both new and old members, promote their sites in a 'spammy' way by making a post and saying "for more info, check my sig?" Is this way of 'marketing' allowed? Do you want it to be? I'm just trying to understand the way things are done here.
Let's start over. 1) Everyones sig gets exposure, it's one of the great things about forums. 2) Whether they are 'noobies' or 'respected elders', some people just happen to say "check my sig" fairly often. Is this allowed here? Do you want it to be? Why or why not?
I still don't understand this part from your original thread. At any rate, who cares if they promote their sig as long as their post contributes to the thread or the community? There's been examples where I've asked a specific question regarding my website. Rather than retype the URL, I'll simply state 'view my signature for link to site', or something like that.
IMO as long as it's not the only thing posted, then it's OK to reference to a relevant link which so happens to be in the sig.
I dont get the point of this thread. Seriously, if i see someone is looking for a particular thing and its there in my sig, then i wont hesitate pointing him to my sig. Although, i haven't done it yet, as all the sites in my sig are not mine.
This is the most useless thread I've ever seen. If you're going to say look at your sig in every post, you're going to get banned. So don't do it, it's spamming. We give you permission to do it 0.001% of your posts, if its relavent to your post and the topic at hand.
No, he saw someone else doing it and now he is asking whether it's OK to do. Albeit in a 'funny' way.
Yes, and posts like: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?p=1123078#post1123078 (and more from that member)
And thoze are allowed in signatures!! And no, I don't get money for geting people to register...unless I win da contest!!!
