I made a blog for The Biggest Loser. A reality TV show on NBC. (in the US) I have a disclaimer on the footer saying that I am not affiliated with NBC or The Biggest Loser. It is starting to worry me because I am getting a lot of feedback and it seems most people think this is the official site. The biggest part is the URL. The URL I got is www. the-biggest-loser.com Well was wondering if anyone could give me some insight in anything that I may need to change or if I could be ask risk of anything. All content is mine except the photos btw. Thanks for your help! Aaron
"The Biggest Loser" is probably trade marked. they aren't that stupid at NBC... As long as your site is "just about subject X", and you mention the trade marks, as you do, you are probably ok. Don't put up screenshots, photo's, audio etc etc; they will sue you and you will lose. (And have to pay more money than your site will ever generate) Your domain name might be at risk. If they start a domain dispute they probably win. If you can, change it to something like "tbl-forum.com" or "the-biggest-fan.com" or something like that. [don't take my word for it, I am not a lawyer; just using my own previous experiences]
Thanks Frank that is what I was thinking too. Would anyone think it might be a good idea to contact NBC to ask about my site?
If your site is promoting their show with out giving something away they would charge/make money on then I think you are okay.
