I created an adsense account before i was 18 and i now obviously know that you have to be 18. Since i am not 18 i obviously haven't entered any of the tax information. Considering that i haven't entered any of the tax information, do you think it would be okay if i changed the payee name to my grandmothers name. She agreed to do this if it could work out and she agreed to put her tax information in. She would receive the checks and then eventually just pay me in cash.

so... do you think this would work?

i have put so much time into my adsense account and i have racked up a good sum of money so it would be a heart break if i didn't receive the money.

    -thanks so much

You can simply open an account at your grandma name, and use it for earnings. You don't need to close your account or even transfert the name. Simply open another one for your grandma.
How much money did you already get in your adsense account?
If it's not much you can let it sit there for until you're 18, perhaps saving is not your thing :)

i have $4000 in it now so i prefer changing the name to my grandmothers. do you think i could get in trouble by google if i do that?

Even if i wait till i am 18 and put the tax info then wouldn't google be able to tell that i made the account before i was 18.

Actually, it's possible to change name, you just have to give them a reason. And the fact that you're not 18 could be a good reason.
But you're right, it could be also a good reason to cancel the account because it was registered by yourself as an under 18 person.
I don't how they would react following your announcement.

Also when you're 18 and you fill in tax infos, at this point you'd be 18, so no real problem in my opinion.

But of course everyone who will answer you will only tell you THEIR opinion, and you want to know adsense's opinion, how it will react. Nobody can tell you.
Or maybe someone who has been in the same situation as yourself, but that is quite unlikely that this person will read and answer your thread.

Wait.. Of course you're from the US, right?
Because if you're not from the US, this 18 rule doesn't apply since they never know your age, just send you a check that you cash in your bank.

Yes it's ok, but they ask for a reason. Knowing that the reason can't be selling your account as it is not allowed, so it must be another reason and they judge if it's fine or not.
But in your case as I said, I don't know if the fact that you were under 18 and still are is a good reason since you were not supposed to open one in the first place and since you're still under 18 you can't really request anything from them, because it's like you don't exist commercially, I mean I'm not a lawyer but in some countries when you're under 18 you can't sign some contracts, there is no validity in your signature. So I really don't know and I'm not sure what would be the less risky course of action.
If we're extremely paranoid about it you could let this account sleep until you're 18 (I hope you're not 10 now) and open another account with grandma and start from there.
If not extremely paranoid and want to risk losing the $4000 now, you can ask google for a name transfert while explaining exactly the situation, might work. If not, then you'll simply have lost the $4000 but can still start opening an account for grandma.

@music legend: so what could be a good explanation for google to accept without asking for tax information on the old name?

hmm thats very interesting. thanks for the great response.

I am also currious as to what a good excuse for changing names would be?

i doubt google would be sympathetic to letting me change the account name with the explanation that i am not 18 yet. Maybe i could email them somehow through another account asking them this very question
