i have a very noob question. in awstats, is a "unique visitor" starts over every day? for instance, if i have 15 unique i.p.s visit my site on monday, and THE SAME 15 visit me on tuesday, will awstats show that is 15 unique visitors on both days?

    thanks

I would imagine it would be a new unique IP, so if the same uniques came back to visit it wouldn't be counted as unique any more.

A "visit" is a number of requests made by an IP within a given a given period. This period is set arbitrarily by the author of the statistics program (usually thirty minutes). If you cease to make requests for more than thirty minutes, when you begin again you are counted as a new visit.

As the length of the timeout period is an arguable question, in my own statistics program I have chosen a simpler approach. The same IP in the same day is one visit, no matter how many times it appears. If you remain making requests overnight, you are counted as two visits. In that case, your example will be right.
