Please Help -- Question about Pinging New Blog

    I have a new Wordpress blog (my first one) and I'm really struggling. My question pertains to getting my site indexed.

    I installed the XML Sitemap Generator plugin and all seems to be working well. Once this is installed, it's my understanding that I either need to set up a webmaster account and get my site verified or else I can just manually ping each search engine.

    I had trouble getting the verification to work, so I've opted for pinging instead.

    I have basically two questions. First, I did a manual ping of Google a couple of days ago, but I'm starting to doubt myself as far as whether I pasted in my actual site in place of the (YOURSITE HERE) or whatever. (Stupid, I know.) Would it hurt to ping them again just to be sure?

    Secondly, on Bing and Yahoo, I didn't get any kind of a verification whether they got the ping or not like I did on Google. I actually got nothing. Does that mean the ping didn't go through and should I try it again? These are the url's I used.

    http://www.bing.com/webmaster/ping.aspx?siteMap=[your sitemap web
    address].

    http://search.yahooapis.com/SiteExplorerService/V1/updateNotification?
    appid=YahooDemo&url=http://www.domain.com/sitemap.xml

    I read that if you ping too often it's not good, but I don't know how often is considered too often, so I was afraid to try it again.

    Any help and suggestions would be great.

    Thanks

    I can usually get my blogs indexed quickly by bookmarking a post or two at digg.com and then using pingomatic.com to ping the post and the bookmark at digg.

    Did you set your blog as public and not private in your wordpress admin area?

    Also, make sure you edit your ping list in your wordpress admin area too. You'll want to add many more sites to ping each time you post.

    What kind of trouble did you have getting your sitemap submitted to Google? Maybe we can help you with that too..

    Thanks for the input. I have probably really messed things up for myself and anything you could do to help me would be TREMENDOUSLY appreciated.

    I do have the setting set to public now (it wasn't for the first couple of days). I have added some more ping sites. I installed the XML Sitemap plugin. I have submitted some articles to Ezine and linked them to my posts. I followed some instructions for the webmaster verification using the html. It had me just create a new page in Wordpress and post the code in there as the title. It was very simple to do (which made me a little suspicious that perhaps I was missing something). When I tried to verify the site, it didn't work. I went to the XML Sitemap Generator Plugin website and looked at some FAQ's and it said in lieu of having a webmaster account, you could just ping each search engine. I tried to do that (with the results I described in my original post). My head is spinning. I have several Homestead sites and all I ever did to get indexed was write an article to Ezine that I linked back to my site and I was indexed very shortly. Just want to take the right steps to get my blog off the ground correctly, but maybe I've already done myself more harm than good. Any help would be wonderful.

    Thanks again
