Please help me with my PHPLD

I am having problems with my directory, when I 1st started I made a load of categories that I have now deleted, now Google and other engines won't get rid of those pages and what happens is they look at the page it goes to the index page and then starts adding categories on top of the non existing URL, I will show you hat I mean, check this URL out:

    biz-dir.co.uk/Jobs/Accounting_Jobs/Internet/SEO/?s=A

I have removed the www's but this page is indexed by G, this means that I have duplicate content in my directory, some of the non existing pages even have high PR:

    biz-dir.co.uk/Jobs/PR_Jobs/

I can't help thinking that the PR is being wasted on these non existing categories not to mention the duplicate content issues. Does anyone know how to fix a PHPLD so that 404 pages get set up on non existing URL's.

Very confusing, not sure what you mean, but I think you are trying to redirect from non www. to www. just use a 301

I'm not sure what you mean, Dave. Deleted pages may still have PR until the next update. Ultimately, you wouldn't know if you wasted or not till G updates all the existing pages.

I have deleted some inner pages that had PR4 and PR3, but I didn't think it was a waste in my case as I didn't create them for selling links on them.

The nonexistant pages do return a 404 response.

    Server Response: hxxp://xxx.biz-dir.co.uk/Jobs/PR_Jobs/
    HTTP Status Code: HTTP/1.1 404
    Date: Sun, 25 Mar 2007 05:31:58 GMT
    Server: Apache/2.0.55 (Red Hat)
    X-Powered-By: PHP/4.4.4
    Expires: Thu, 19 Nov 1981 08:52:00 GMT
    Cache-Control: no-store, no-cache, must-revalidate, post-check=0, pre-check=0
    Pragma: no-cache
    Set-Cookie: PHPSESSID=1837e97d83fed2e506b834e3ad472885; path=/
    Connection: close
    Content-Type: text/html; charset=utf-8

It's likely these pages will start falling out of the index. The PR displayed is from the home page - look at the cached version. I wouldn't be surprised to see it get sorted out.

Yes same happened in link-stars.com and for about 1 month their was like 3000 + pages showing up as 404 and all that happy shit... finish you catagories structure and submit the new sitemap it will take about 2 weeks but will straighten itself out... the inner PR is probably toast unlsee you do a redirect but dont waste you time... just get the cats and sitemap up and hopefully before the PR starts updating your pages will be indexed and get PR in them.

    thx
