Shorthand is you can get in trouble if you register and use a domain that has
a trademark for a similar and/or competing service. IIRC the .in domain name
has a dispute resolution system for domain-trademark disputes, but that is if
the trademark holder decides to file one under that.

Depends on who you're dealing with, and if they indeed have a trademark.

Well, you can ask your domain provider if they can cancel and refund or give
a credit for another domain registration. Depends on them.

Beyond that, you'll probably have a hard time making money off that. That is
where I can't really tell you what to do as I'm not intimately familiar with .in
domain policies, and I'm just guessing from similar ones for .com.

What do you mean what should you do ? Don't do anything. You have probably just wasted reg fee...big deal. People do it everyday on junk domains or domains that they can't use.

Why would you register someone elses name in the first place ?

You are going to have to talk to your registrar about that. If not consider it a $6 lesson that could have been avoided with just a little common sense. You are lucky, my domain mistakes cost me $10.
