Please help me understand these stats.

    Hi,
I'm having a bit of trouble understanding my stats. Here are some (hypothetical of course) stats for one of my sites:

    day 1: 13 clicks, $0.43 ecpm, $1.14 earnings
    day 2: 33 clicks, $0.72 ecpm, $0.92 earnings

Until now I was thinking that the higher the ecpm, the better, but am I wrong about this? If someone is paying $0.72 per thousand, then I should make more per click than the $0.43 ones, right? By those stats I would have thought that day 2's earnings would be much higher than day 1's. Can someone please help me understand this?

    Thanks, Matt

The higher the better, but since you had nearly three times the clicks on day 2, you can earn slightly less and still have it be higher).

trying to figure that out now. Please, explain for a person encaptulated in an ice block for too long so the brain still needs to thaw?

are we to understand that sometimes more clicks are not better? And that it is better to have more impressions with the rising clicks, then?

    try to understand this better

ecpm is your earnings per thousand page views. Clicks doesn't really have anything to do with it. Divide your earnings by your page views to get ecpm. Payment per click can change greatly depending on the ads that are running.

    day 1: 13 clicks, $0.43 ecpm, $1.14 earnings
    day 2: 33 clicks, $0.72 ecpm, $0.92 earnings

    $1.14/13 clicks = $0.087 per click
    $0.92/33 clicks = $0.027 per click

So although you received more clicks, the payoff to you for those clicks was less per click, maybe in the first example higher paying ads were show/clicked on.

thanks. I am learning more and more as I proceed. I developed a first keyword laden article to test the response and the ads which come up.

One thing I do not want to do is simply chase the dollar, because it will lead me not seeing the wood from the trees.

I already have a content laden site with traffic, I must just optimise it to achieve more

Is your question not answered here or there yet? (for those that are not members of WMW, and who can not see that link, it is a copy of this quesion by a user called "mattmartin" with 1 post.)

Nothing wrong with posting the same question on many forums, but maybe wait a bit to see if one forum answeres your question b4 you go making accounts on others to ask the same quesiont.. thats all.

My 2c is that you should take the GAS stats with a pinch of salt and look at the bigger picture (daily/weekly earnings) and also when you are dealing with small numbers of clicks / visitors you are going to get some strange numbers, my stats start out with high CPM's and then level off as more data comes in.

And you only get 13 clicks a day, whats your URL, maybe we can help you change your ads to make them work harder for you... how many visitors do you get a day?

It means like those keywords do not pay that well.

They pay few cents per click.

33 clicks for only $0.92 earnings?? Wow! That's horrible..

Sounds like you need to target some better keywords.. \

Ok, I get it now. For some reason I was thinking that ecpm was the price that the advertiser was paying. Yep the earnings are awful for this particular site, but they were even worse last week. I have been making some changes to get the ctr up. I just want to get this site up to $3 per day and I'll be happy, then I will work on getting more sites online until I have 100 each making $3 (or more) per day :). Critters, I rarely post on webmaster world so whenever I go over there to post I can't remember my login info and I have to create a new account. I think that was like my 4th one.

    Thanks
