Please help me understand Hosting / Domains / DNS

    Hi

    This is probably a simple questions for some of you - please don't laugh at my n00b skill for asking it...

    What is the best, and most cost effective, way to register domains and host websites?

    Currently, I have a multi-domain package using Haisoft.co.uk. They provide hosting for all of my sites, and charge me between £9.99 and £19.99 every time I register a domain.

    However, I always see that it is really cheap to register a domain with go-daddy (like a few dollars) but I can't figure out how I would ever host a website with them?

    Please help me and explain how I can register a domain with go daddy and what kind of hosting service I would need to make use of the domain!?!

    This has confused me for years because I never asked the question, so i'm asking it now. please help!

    Hi,

    You can register the domain with any one you just need to have the name servers of your hosting company which you need to enter when you are ordering the domain.

    When you register a domain with GoDaddy, you get access to a Control Panel. On the Control panel, there should be an option to change the name server for the domain. Whoever your hosting is with should be able to tell you what their nameserver is. Then just go into the GoDaddy Control Panel and change the nameserver. As bobbydeo said, you should be able to do this during the purchase phase, but I know that you can change it at any time.

    What people forgot to mention is you need to set up an account for that domain with your hosting company, if you have multiple domains with something like cPanel you just use an Add-on domain.

    Dont bother man. Just transfer ur domain and hosting too to your godaddy account. U r the legal owner of ur site and hosting u can do it.

    GoDaddy provides hosting too. And you can change settings of your domain at any point of time.

    yea, whitey has a good point. i also couldn't figure it out for a long time til i found the addon domains section in cpanel. when you add the domain there, it'll also give you the nameservers to use on godaddy

    i personally wouldn't go with godaddy hosting

    Ah,

    Welcome to the wonderful word of Domains, Name Servers, and so on

    It's confusing but you will learn with time ;)
