I want to create a website where people can create a account and also will be able to write tutorials as well. They need to register first before a member and then they can create tutorials as a author. Which is the best wordpress theme to build this type of website? Do I need to pay for this type of theme? Please reply. Thanks
The choice of theme is the look of the site, it has very little to do with how the site runs. The theme should reflect the subject matter of the site. A theme that's good for a cooking tutorials site wouldn't be that great for a car repair tutorials site. There are thousands of free themes to choose from.
I'm a true advocate of Wordpress; love it! You need to really evaluate your processes and requirements and then look at a theme that fits. Totally agree with Rukbat, the theme needs to fit the requirements and the branding too; colours, fonts and designs you may like may not suit your end users or product. Review other similar websites and see what's good and bad. Then, brainstorm a list and include "must haves" and "nice to haves" and then search for the requirements and evaluate the themes. I use "Use Case" diagrams to document the processes, but a simple list is fine. Also, with the structure; do you want two column, three column or have the sidebar removed?? Some themes even allow you to change the colour to suit too. I know, Wordpress themes are a minefield but you can install a few and play around with them as they are easy to deactivate. I just did a quick google and found this web page, haven't clicked on the designs themselves so do not know if they are free or what?? The date is quite old too but there are some funky looking ones there. wp.smashingmagazine.com/2007/02/09/83-beautiful-wordpress-themes-you-probably-havent-seen/ Moodle: Just another point, bearing in mind you would like people to write tutorials, have you seen the open-source learning content management system called Moodle??? Never used it personally although many large training organisations actively use Moddle. Take a look: moodle.org/about/
