Please help: how best to monetize my website?

I just launched my new website for comparing online game money sellers (ie. World of Warcraft, etc.) and am trying to figure out the best way to monetize it.

Currently, the only sites I have listed are affiliate sites and I am generating a small amount of traffic through PPC programs. The conversion rate however, is something around 2-5%, very poor and definitely not covering the cost of the traffic.

I was wondering if maybe a PPC campaign would be more profitable. I could then add sites that do not have affiliate programs to the mix. Any input is greatly appreciated.

    Regards,

    Adam

You've done the standard stuff like having a press release sent out and posting in relevant forums, article distros etc?

PPC might help but if your converstion ratio is low you might want to look at whether or not it's an issue with the merchange or your site before you go spending several hundred dollars more on site promotion.

    Just my 2 cents.

why not create an optin page to collect your subscriber details and stuff. I see that all you have is just a normal platform to sell other products but you are just working on your first time customers.

once you collected their data, you can create a mini strategy guide or something to monetize from the subscriber data. Sometimes you can cross sell different games and give them incentives to try out other games..

    hope this helps..

Thanks for the input Niall. I haven't done any promotion besides free CPC advertising at the moment, but I do plan to in the near future. I do agree that it might be my merchants screwing me on the commission. I have some merchants reporting ~10-15% conversion, while others are reporting 0 with about the same quality and amount of traffic. No way for me to find out for sure though. Thats actually the main reason I'd like to switch over to a PPC revenue source instead of affiliate based.

Thats a great idea that I want to implement in the future. But I'm still trying to decide whether or not to use PPC Ads or Affiliate revenue to generate the primary income from first time users.
