    Hi,

I ended up very confused in my first attempt of using Google Keyword Tool to create a list of keywords after 3 week reading and joining two programs. Can you experienced marketers out there help me to get out of the confusion?

I know my goal is to come up with a set of cheap and yet relevant keywords for the product I intend to market. So I set up the Tool with exact match and show all columns. I checked the website conetent and specified the vendor's URL. I didn't set the Max. CPC( I didn't see it).

I found a few keywords with avg. CRC $0.05. I entered these keywords back to the tool and came up with 170 keywords with avg. CPC $0.05 after 4 runs. At this point, I was so excited thinking I got it made. This only thing seems suspcious is that most these keywords have insufficient data in search volume. This morning, I re-ran the process and found I had fewer cheap keywords. After a while I realized the max. CPC plays a significant role with the avg. CPC and estimated positions. I heard positions 4-8 are good positions to target. But I'm not sure I understand impact of the the Max. CPC. I searched the program websites and itnernet and didn't see discussions to help.

Can you help me answering the following questions that might reshake my thinking :

    1. Am I on the right track limiting the selection to only cheap keywords?

    2. Should I be worried by the "Not Enoguh Data" for search volume? Would I wind up no cheap keywords if I keep them from my collection?

    3. How should I vary the max. CPC in order to get a goos set of keywords?

    Thanks in advance!

    Warren

Not enough data means that the tool, couldn't find enough history to return a figure - i.e. nobody is looking for those keywords. Use those as the basis of your keyword list and you won't get impressions, let alone clicks.

    1. Not really - if you only select cheap keywords they're not going to have many searches, better to have a mix.

    2. Yes - it means there are hardly any searches for those keywords - so you're gonna get hardly any clicks. You'll often find that the first page bid estimate recommended by Google is very high (i.e. we have a lot of phrases where it recommends £1.50 and we're in the top page with around £0.30) - if you can get a good QS then this first page bid estimate is drastically reduced

    3. You should start off with a higher cpc (just what you feel comfortable with), and then reduce as you see fit dpeending on the performance of the Kws
