Please give your opinion: 4 OS to install in a laptop

Discussion in 'Hardware' started by pesst, May 26, 2007.

    Hello, I'd like to install the following OS in my 120GB Laptop:

    * C: Win XP 80GB
    * D: Win Vista 14GB
    * E: Mac OS 12GB
    * F: Linux Fedora 12GB
    * G: Linux SWAP 2GB

    Is it a good configuration??

    I'm just wondering if I could have troubles with the HD speed or if using the 'C:' unit to storage files is a good idea...

    Thank you mates :)

    i have installed 5-6 os myself, including windows 98 and fedora and red hat of linux! i did not had much problems and the computer was working fine!

    but then you need to do it carefully, as some os tends to overrite or use other drive for buffers etc, that may corupt some files of the other os!

    i would say, go for it!:)

    I suggest you to use virtual machines rather than partition you hard drive. With virtual machines (with VMWare) you can save them, make snapshots, etc....

    for testing purposes, I suggest you to use VMWare Workstation.... for performance it's pretty good too....

    Thanks for the opinions! I certainly need these four OS for my work and I think that configuration will be OK, what program should I use to start the process?

    A) Norton Partition Magic
    B) Acronis
    C) Other

    First, I need to format to 4 different filesystems lol

    Thanks again.

    Although it won't make much of a difference but Xp and Vista at the same time dont add up.

    How about using their (OS) own partition utilities :rolleyes: That would be time consuming but I always like to use that method ;)

    Im Computers Engineer and I need to test code with these os using a bunch of different compilers like Kdevelop, GCC, Dev c++......

    I think I'll use Acronis because I've read very bad opinions about partition magic...

    And hard drive will transfer faster with different filesystems, correct me if I'm wrong :)
