I am Graphic Designer from karachi-Pakistan. Currently I am working in a pharmaceutical company, but am not satisfied with this job because it is not of my field and interest. My interest is in website designing and I am good in it.

I have given interview in some website design companies but they ask me to have a knowledge of website development too, which I don't have.

Can anyone of you give me the name of some good web design companies in karachi? I can join even as a junior web designer there. Just want to join a company of MY field that is "Web Designing".

Hope this big community can help me for that.

    Thanks

Why don't your find some work online as a freelancer while searching for a better job. You should read Spider magazine & @internet magazine to learn about some web designing companies in Pak.

Yes SUFI, I am working as a freelance web designer for past 2 years. All work from internet. And I have visited the companies I found from Spider Magazine... Magsnet is one of them. I contacted like 6-7 other companies and they asked me to send a portfolio, then they never contacted me :(

It doesn't mean that I am not good in designing thats why they didn't contact me I think since I don't know the development part therefore they are not very much interested in me.

maybe u'r asking too much salary in your interview that's why they are not interested hiring someone who is asking much and knows less ? just my two cents thoughts..

Why you are interested in work for company in Pakistan ? They will pay peanuts. Freelancing gives more money.

I totally agree. You will get a min salary. It may be equal to your one project online. Don't waste your time with local companies. Yeah if you want experience then it's ok.

No, not at all. I never asked too much salary, even I always say that "Whatever salary you think is good according to my skills"

Yes me too agree with you, but office experience is something different... in real world office experience counts.. not this freelance work and experience.

But glitto, you know, the freelancing work will just get bigger and bigger from time to time as the internet audience increases. So you shouldn't worry about less pays in future, especially if you have returning customers.

Why don't you open a designing firm by hiring a developer and advertise it on spider magazine? :p

Wrong move, people will own you this way. Stick to your real value and even bit high.

"Yes me too agree with you, but office experience is something different... in real world office experience counts.. not this freelance work and experience.
    "

Office experience counts for what ? I never have any problems even if I want to go to office showing my freelance jobs and all will be ok, actually I said no to all of this offices, they wanted to hire me.

The reason you want to change career, but that is really other thing, I reccomend you continue what you do and also take in account what I wrote in this post earlier anyway:)

Yeah I agree. You can show your projects done to them. This will be included in your experience. What is experience? How long you have worked or how proficient you are in a specific field.

I had a freelancer for a interview, and apparently he showed me some of the works he had done which were not actually his own, jsut copied off the some website which I knew about it very well.

usually when we interview office experience counts mainly for verification, if a person has worked in X company you can directly call them and ask more details from the creative head or team lead..

freelancing you can't work your whole life.. you need some stable ground on which you can stand, you need some social standing... and various other factors.!

sorry i may not agree with you all, but that's what i think.

If you are successfull freelancer you also have stable ground. And comparing with offices in my town (I am from Ukraine) I am Mr. Stable Ground:)

As for social standing I will choose to earn more and reinvest in my own business/projects.

And freelancer you are talking about now are not successfull , just some liar. He will not come to office if he is really successfull. Let me guess ? he tried, have no skills, making peanuts in best case and then copy some other jobs and claiming it was his own. Usual case.

I am not saying working in office is bad, no way, but there are not enough companies always which can motivate you a lot more than currently if you are good (in money, freedom and so on)

well money is not always what you need, if you have a good work environment and even if you are getting paid less it's better then working alone in dark corner of your room.

the point is one has to evaluate himself, and based on his personal preferences...

errr... going off-topic .. back to topic!

@Glitto the best would to be don't give-up.. keep on posting your resume to companies advertising in Sunday Dawn Karachi.. i'm sure you'll get a better job.

No celebs, I don't lie... wherever I go for interview I show all of my freelance work and I even show them the 'rejected' projects from clients and tell them that the client didn't like this design. I mean I tell them everything 100% correct. And yes you are right that as a 'Freelancer' you can't work for whole life. Things change very quickly.

Yes I definitely will not give up :)

I am working on my own website and will show it here very soon.

If you still want to see my work and can't wait for my website please tell me :)
