    That was brief. The concept of web 2.0 is that sites are interactive and not just for reading. So the SEO exploitation of those sites was to create an account (or many) at any site that will let you, set up your profile with your site link and make posts with your site link.

    There are spam filters that will thwart you - such as Akismet and if your site is black listed it can make things very difficult.

    Google has clamped down on this kind of link building too and it's largely discredited. Taking a look at my Akismet spam results it seems that the message has been slow to reach the people doing link building and they will start paying a heavy price for being out of date.
