I've always heard about pinging google or yahoo. What is this exactly? Does this help get your links from articles or sitemaps noticed quicker? How do I do it and can I ping my site only or my artcles on other sites?
You can find a pretty detailed description of pinging/ping at the WIKI below. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ping_blog That should give you a pretty good idea of what it is, what it does, how it goes about doing it and what the benefits are. Most blogging software has a pining capability already built in (i.e. WordPress), so when you submit a blog entry/post, it notifies a select group of websites that your blog has been updated. From there, they spider your website and spread the information across various resources. Ping-O-Matic comes to mind when thinking of a good resource for a one-stop ping, however, I've found it's better to manually submit to each resource over using automatic services. The same is said with search engine submission as well.
Thanks for the post. I know about Backlinks but need to get up to speed on Ping backs and a few other things.
Pinging SEs allows the changes in your website to get notice by SEs. Im not sure how effective it is, but its not so hard to ping, why dont you try it?
I did google it before asking the question here. I was looking for better definitions and some how to's. For example, if I have a few new articles on my site, update my sitemap, should I ping google with the sitemap or article url? Also, how do I go about doing this. Any additional info would be helpful.
