I have Joomla content site. There are components that would allow me to add Technorati tags. The tags can be set to internal links or external. I'm trying to understand the benefit, if any, from a search perspective and had a few questions: What does the "typical Technorati" user do that adding tags on my site will help me and/or them? Can they still "add me", if that's the correct term, even if my site is not Technorati tagged? If I tag my entire site, how does this benefit me. If I add Technorati, should I be considering the others? If so, which ones? Has anyone added tags to their CMS (Mambo, Joomla, etc) and seen increases in SERPs, Traffic or anything positive that you can see? Any input at all on the subject is greatly appreciated. -Chris
Excellent questions! Other than providing your visitors with a way to check other sites/blogs that may contain the same type of subject(based on those tags)...I really don't see the benefit that it provides to your site specifically. Some expert insight on this would be great.
The benefit is that people will be able to find your blog entries from sites like Technorati. If they search for a particular tag, and you have tagged your entry with that keyword, they will find your site. One thing to note is you do not have to use the "official" technorati URL to tag your posts. If you use categories, theyt will automatically be tagged with the keyword. Or you can just use any link and use the "rel='tag'" attribute. See: http://www.technorati.com/help/tags.html for full details.
