Hey all, I really don't think I (totally) understand Google backlinks? Specifically: 1) Are they in any particular order when Google displays them? 2) Does PR "factor in?" How? 3) How come I do not see "all my backlinks" from the same site? - Meaning if I know I have 5 text links on 5 different pages of a particular site (all pages are at least PR5, why doesn't Google display all of them?) 4) What else do I need to know about backlinks??? 5) Is this the correct syntax: link:www.maximumwebmaster.com Appreciate the feedback, Thanks. Michael B. www.MaximumWebmaster.com
1. no, or at least probably no. 2. not any more. used to only show PR4+, but that seems to have changed. 3. because google only shows a sample of the backlinks. why? because that's how they want it. 4. depends on what you want to know. 5. yes.
Thanks for the info dazzlin... Still kinda curious - Why does anyone "care" about the number of backlinks to their site on Google? Is it strictly a PR thing? Maybe this is a better way to phrase what I'm trying to say Do you care about Google backlinks to your site(s)? Why? Why not? THANKS AGAIN, M-
PR is one part of it. link popularity (the number of sites linking to you) can also have an impact on your ranking in the SERPS. apart from the sheer number of them, the anchor text used can also help get you to rank for a particular term. there's no way you'd ever rank for a really competitive phrase without backlinks.
I can't speak for your particular search, put the "link:" function has been acting strangely lately. Some times it shows all links, some times only those with PR over 4, a couple of times I thought it was not showing links even with PR above 4. So it may just be a problem with Google as for why your backlinks did not show up.
