Hello All, As some of you that helped are aware, and thanks , I have been working on a personal project for quite a number of months now and finally i can say that it is open to public release. The site is a Job board that is soley for the Swindon area in the UK. At the moment it is a bit bare as we have not started the promotion side of things, but this will hopefully change with time, and im ready to start the link building/advertising campaign . Im looking for peoples thoughts about first impression, ease of use etc? anything is welcomed and im not afraid of criticism. Thankyou for your time www.jobsinswindon.com Mike
I cannot offer much in the way of criticism. I like the fact it is a direct site and that you are only one or two clicks away from useful information. It is relatively quiet graphically and the ads do not get in the way. I think this is a good thing if the primary purpose of the site is to help people find jobs and employers find prospective workers. I did not get the sense that it was an executive type of place. This is obvious from the salary ranges used in the search engine. I think that could be a good think because an ordinary Joe is not going to get the feeling that your site won't have something he is likely to aspire to. Good luck with this. I think this is a good way to blend public service with entrepreneurial opportunity.
its really nice and colorful, it reminds me of the site adbrite.com . All universal colors. I really like the logo, has kind of an old fashioned/ Average joes from dodgeball movie logo . Great job man.
thanks so much both of you, It is certainly aimed at your "average Joe" Im glad it comes accross as i had hoped! any more comments are welcomed
Looks great, can i just ask where you are going to get the jobs from? will they be jobs advertised directly through your site, or are you going to be using some type of feed? interested to see how it turns out, good luck!
We will be adding jobs ourselves to start with, and we will try to encourage smaller employers to sign up with us first and then this will hopefully plough the road for some of the big boys. There are also a number of companies that we are in discussions with to feed jobs. Conkers is one such company that offers this service. Mambo - thanks for the comments. As an aside do you and others think there are too many ads? do they distract from where the main content will be?
well, for me its just that they arent really relevant to your site. dvd's etc. This makes it look more like a personal site rather than a jobs site. ive tried using feeds, but had problems with them, im waiting for someone to have success with them so i can pick their brain lol! hope this works out for you
i am from malaysia .. in our country there is one recruitment company quite success until it listed in our stock exchange .. u can used as a reference .. www.jobstreet.com good luck
Hey Mike, Great site. It's a little hard to give you a fair critism since I am not sure what it's like in Swindon. I know that here in Atlanta, Georgia we have a lot of job boards here. The successful job boards tend to be very focused, for example they might be focused in programming, construction, engineering... I briefly looked at your site and my first thought was that I have no idea what types of jobs your job board specializes in. After some thought I realized that your site might not specialize at all. I just went back to your site and I noticed that you have that quick search drop down with all of categories, so it looks like your site is for all types of jobs. I think it would be cool if in the drop down you listed the number of jobs available in that category, maybe something like catering (22). Best wishes, Marty
Nice colors, and a very "active" design. However there is a issue with your site, the adverts are hidden above the scrollable area in the browser, [ Opera 9, Windows XP Professional and SP2]
Hmm, that's the fist time I've heard anyone complain that ads were hidden above the scrollable area! I'm not an expert in Brit-speak, but shouldn't: "Post a free vacancy!" be "Post a vacancy, free!"? or is that a cultural difference?
