I just recently had freediskspace.com redesigned. It is a myspace resource site. Please let me know your comments. I own many websites (welovepool.com, highlandrags.com, mustangtraderonline.com, among many others) - and many look more professional i think - but this IS a myspace site and the users tend to a younger crowd and the brighter colors seem to work with them. Thanks, Tony
My opinions: too many color and the color look obsolete, if you want use your current background use only 3 web 2.0 color, for reference web 2.0 secret weapon and web 2.0 color pallete
Thank you. Have you checked out any of my competition before responding? myspacemaster.net/ ultimatemyspace.com/ mygirlyspace.com/ among others.. I thought I was being conservative..
I've seen your competitors, they're to many and looking obsolete, my opinion with using web 2.0 design your sites will more popular than your competitors. FYI see samples of good design in smashingmagazine.com, hope you can learn what the best design to make your site more popular.
Yes, I agree its time for Web 2.0. Its time we go tableless. Honestly, you could have really used some better colors for the site.
I'm curious about the 'tableless' comment.. Why do you say that? Also, i've changed the color scheme to web 2.0 colors - does it look any better?
Quite simply, there are too many different "things" going on with the website with regards to color. It's a bit annoying to be honest from a "user" standpoint. I also don't think that its very strategic to do the same "basic" thing as your competition is doing. I think its up to you to notice their inefficiencies and capitalize on them, not continue delivering that same....mistake. Think of it from a user perspective. When you go to a website, you want to feel comfortable, and looking at the way this current design looks....I don't. Also, the little flap in the corner, with the advertisement is annoying too, but that could just be me. I believe that you should try generalizing the menu options a bit more so that you don't have a clutter of links to click on. It becomes unattractive very quickly. Instead of such a square look, try going with the rounded edge feel, that right there should boost the comfort level just a little in itself. The adsense advertisement in the middle, underneath the "Cool Myspace Layouts" seems very out of place. Basically, the first thing you should do is gather all of the links you currently have in all of your menus and begin making more general categories, and instead use those "general categories" as the menu options you use, so that you have there aren't as many options on the front page. Secondly, think of a more round edged design (this is from my point of view). Third, the front page definitely shouldn't be as cluttered as it is. Make the front page feel like the user is reading a blog and that only. In the middle would be the content, and if you choose to keep menus on the side, then so be it. Maybe within the actual content you could blend in an advertisement here and there (1 at a time). Banner ads should be at the top, kind of above the fold. If it isn't an image/video advertisement, it should be blended in with the general theme of the website. Choose one good color. When you've found the color you want, use different shades of that color to define your website. This way it'll be much easier to blend everything together. That's what I've got to say for now.
I'm not real crazy about the color selection. It seems a little hodge-podge to be honest. You've got yellow, green, red, blue, black, purple, a different type of red, and more all on the front page. Find a color scheme and go with it, I think it will improve your site drastically. Also, pictured backgrounds are pretty outdated these days and are considered to look unprofessional. I would go with a different type of background whether it be solid, a gradient, or some type of small effect. I would also personally do away with the little binder looking affect on the left side, but thats just me.
