I've been posting comments to blogs for a few months now (so I'm no expert by any means) but I have noticed a few things in the short time that I've been doing it. 1- When you're post to a blog please be respectful, it's someone else’s hard work and spamming it isn't very nice. If you want to add a backlink, do it, but add something useful to the blog - at least take the time to read what you are commenting on. A "Thanks for that" or "Nice information" isn't a comment. 2- Add one or two backlinks - don't get greedy because the site owner will change everything to "no follow". I don't understand people who post … Ugg boots Ugg boots Ugg boots Ugg boots … think they will get more backlinks! How would you like the blog owner to post that all over your precious site you're trying to promote? 3- The more spammy a blog becomes the faster Google drops it’s page rank. If it’s got a PR6 today and “Ugg boots†comes along, it will be a PR0 in a few months. So be respectful to the site/blog owner and don’t get greedy otherwise your post will soon be useless too. Does anyone else have any advice or comments?
You're 100% right, this is why most blogs these days are no follow. I run a couple of blogs and used to find 100's of ridiculous comments every morning. Had to switch to no follow.
Thanks @Water Damage, I have changed the way I moderate my blogs these days. I used to allow comments unmoderated, but soon realised how brainless some people can be when leaving comments. Some of don't even take the time to read through before leaving comments link 'very informative, thank you for posting'. And as a blog owner, I don't think twice before deleting such comment. If only people could be alot more sensible and leave good and relevant comments, their comments won't be causing problems for others.
