Please advise on starting my SECOND site

    Hello all,

I've been AdSensing for 4 months now, and I've built up my first site so that it gets a reasonable income. It took a few months, so I think I should start building up my second site now. I'm worried to have all my eggs in one basket, because if I start to depend on this income and then my website host goes down, I'm in trouble.

So, on the first site I have not spent any money at all to advertise it or promote it. I just put it in Google, and submitted it to some free directories such as DMOZ, etc. It took 2 months before it got any really good traffic.

For site two, my plan is:

    (1) Use a different website hosting company, and obviously a different domain name.
    (2) Make a link from my existing PR3 homepage to the new one.
    (3) Apply the usual SEO techniques.
    (4) Spend some money advertising / buying links.

The difference is that this time I will spend a little of the adsense income from the first site to get the second off the ground more quickly. I can't spare much, but $20 a month could be available.

Anyone with a little experience give me some advice on how to do this well please?

Its definately a good idea to diversify risk. Lets get the cliches out now. Create a site on a topic that you love and would create even if you weren't earning any money.

Submit free articles to big and/or niche article sites with a backlink.

Add yourself to external links on Wikipedia on relevant subjects (only if your site has good content).

This is not "putting you eggs on difrent basckets" becouse you still depend only on ADSENSE puting your eggs in difrent baskets means difrent income sources not 2-3 websites with ADSENSE

Yes, but having more than one site can difersify risk because you are not relying on one site.

Infact, having more than one site is a better way to diversify risk than having 1 site and having different income streams such as adsense and affiliates, etc.

If you are already satisfied with your current hosting provider, no need to shift to another company. You will get a new IP by ordering a new web hosting package.

make site 2 similar to site 1 so you can link the two to each other.

    like cars>>>>trucks
    or houses>>>condos

I'd like to diversify the income sources, but AdSense is the only one I've tried that has worked so far. I can't use YPN in the UK sadly. I have had no success with affiliates.

It's a very good idea to make my second website on a topic similar to the first. Thanks for that.

I don't trust my website hosting company 100%, which is why I would go to another one for my second website. During the World Cup my website disappeared for several hours one day, and I guess the technical support guy was watching the big match! That sort of thing could cost me a lot of money.

I've got no way to judge how likely it is that I'd get kicked off AdSense. I'm not trying anything sneaky, and I've emailed them before to check that the image placement on one of my pages was ok, so we're on friendly terms (!) but I do see a lot of "I just got banned for no reason" stories on this forum.

Is it typical for a website to take two or three months to really come good for AdSense earnings, or have you been able to shortcut that by buying links on PR8 sites and other techniques? If 2-3 months is normal, I'd better get building my next site now.

i don't think you should have many sites for adsense huge income work on one put all effort on one you'll get golden eggs on one basket ,but anyway you are planning for another site .then
build your list ,Give out free e-zine subscription,Offer free content ,Hand out a free e-book to your visitors, Conduct free online courses , Allow free access to your contest, Offer free software downloads,Provide free online services,Provide free consulting

I advise you to also get into affilaite marketing, so if your adsense account gets banned, you still have the affilaite

my friend concentrate on getting a lot of traffic to your site.
once there is traffic you will be able to monotise it with adsense or some other way.
so my suggestion is to build sites in different geners and also if you can have an alternate affilate income from your content that will be great.

but more importantly i guess we all should look at traffic for our sites.
    geniune i must add.

if your adsense gets banned cant you just replace it with something else like chitika? but yeah affiliate stuff might just help you monetise more

Well, I applied to Chitika and they said no because I didn't get high enough traffic. I also tried another one, can't remember the name, and I didn't get into that either. Google just allows anyone in! It's not like my site is bad or weird, but some of these other programs are more fussy.

Hi cornetto, how did you manage to get into DMOZ? It's the hardest thing for most webmasters.

It was easy to get into DMOZ, I just went to their site and submitted one of my pages. A few days later they emailed to tell me that the page was in the directory. Is there some other sort of "getting into DMOZ" that is harder than that? I've only got one page in there, but of course that page has a link to my homepage on it!
