Play WMV files in a Flash player?

Discussion in 'Graphics & Multimedia' started by fablex, May 3, 2007.

I was wondering if it was possible to play .wmv files in a nice flash player. I'm looking for a good video player that resizes to the size of the movie automaticly and then starts streaming. Have been searching for some time now, so I dont know if it is possible. Could someone help me with this?

    Thanks!

What exactly do you mean by saying that ... do you want to convert your wmv files to swf ones or what?

No, I dont want to convert them, since it are rather large files and like 20 a day or so most of the time, so I'm looking for a faster solution.

The movies are in wmv format. At the moment I just use the standart Windows media player to stream it on my site, but I want a nicer player, such as you see with the flash players. Example: http://www.insidegamer.nl/playstation3/nba2k7/videos/2370

But I dont know if it's possible that you can just stream WMV files in such a player, which was my question. And, if yes, does someone know one, or can make one for me for a small price?

you can convert your files into .flv on your pc, using the help of a conversion software ... then you can upload the files on your server so that they could be streamed on a player .... Only .flv and .mp3 could be streamed on a player like the one mentioned.

For converting from wmv to flash I can suggest FlashConv
    A worthwhile tool indeed.

    good luck

Simply using the term Flash and you wanting it to be a player, can only be described as a Flash Player.......... Therefore a flash player will only play flash Files ...... .FLV or SWF

Why anyone today would want to stream .wmv files anymore is beyond me, as the flash format we have at our disposal is a fantastic format for video.

Video can be compressed so amall these days, while retaining good quality, you simply can not do better than using Flash. .wmv should now really only be used in a windows situation.

Conversion from WMV to FLV, using the software in the link below only takes a few minutes to convert from wmv, avi, or Mpeg and everyone who views it online these days will be able to see it. Once you have used this software and see how easy it is to use, you won't want to use WMV again.

Add Video to Your Website in 3 Simple Steps

One of my Online TV shows, also demonstrates this software in use.

Quite simply move away from wmv for online video and use flash exclusively.

You should take a look here:
    http://www.jeroenwijering.com/?item=JW_WMV_Player

However if you want to go the FLV way I would suggest go with On2 Flix which is the best
FLV converter out there. It uses the On2 Vp6 codec.
    http://flix.on2.com
Select the Flix standard that comes for $39.

If you are looking for Free FLV Converters you can try two best ones.
    http://www.download.com/EasyFLV-FLV-Converter/3000-2194_4-10723477.html
    http://www.download.com/Riva-FLV-Encoder/3000-2140_4-10320097.html
Both these encoders use FFMPEG which is an open source engine.

If you want a fast FLV converter that can batch process 100s wmv files try this
    http://www.easyflv.com/batch-flv-converter.php - $29 only.

If you want a cool Free FLV Web Video player try this
    http://www.jeroenwijering.com/?item=JW_FLV_Media_Player
    or bit simpler
    http://www.flowplayer.org/

Take a look around and you will find tons of FLV resources and related software. You really do not
need to invest a huge $$$ for FLV converters and players.
