A couple of weeks ago whilst surfing around I came across a site called www.getfilmsnow.com which is published by a company called Platte Media. Its a DVD download site but with a very interesting twist as the site gives you the option to sign up for a subscription to their site without having to first give them your credit card details! The site does this by letting you down load their access software which, if you don't cancel within their 3 day trial period, then pops a bill up on your screen which you can then pay by a variety of means. Very trusting of them as they don't have any of my details! The bill pops up daily and did so until I sent a cheque off for my subscription which must have been processed as the bills don’t show anymore. Platte Media's website is the only example I can find of a site that offers this option to their customers. I am very curious to learn more about this technology and to try and find out if there are other business offering this as a sign up option or if Platte is the pioneer of this technology. As an avid web surfer I come across a lot of sites I would like to subscribe to but am reluctant to give my credit card details (or any other details) if I don’t know of them. For me therefore this was a great solution and I would like to know if any other DP users have heard of any other businesses or sites using similar technology to that used by Platte Media?? I have surfed around but can’t find any other examples yet. I have found a load of bits from people talking about the Platte software but mainly from people who appear to have down loaded it without realising and claim it’s some malware or that Platte Media is scamming them as they never visited the GFN site. However from my own experience it works exactly as it says on the tin! Indeed the number of times I had to click “yes†during the sign up process was a little annoying, albeit a small burden when it was letting me sign up without having to part with my credit card details. If any DP users know of other examples of this technology please let me know.
Hi, just seen you post and wanted to let you know that i also have been very impressed with the online secure billing methods that have been developed by the company platte media, this seems to be a great break through in the way consumers can have secure billing online and really puts online fraud and personal identity theft to bed, like you said you do not need to give them any unsecure information so there isn’t any information to be abused! I have also just signed up to their unlimited film download site getfilmsnow as its seems to offer great value for money and so far I have been blown away by how quick the films, TV shows, documentaries, and music can be downloaded, and this doesn’t seem to be at the cost of the download quality, as everything I have downloaded so far has been just as good as a DVD if anything I think its better.. I have noticed another site that seems to be within the same group called platteint they also have some interesting information on their site to.. Lets hope this catches on and hopefully it will make the web a safer place to be.. P.s yes it seems that platteint / plattemedia are the pioneers of this technology and ive not found anything else like it online so far! And i totally agree that clicking all those t&c pages get a bit annoying but i think its fair enough considering the final software is so damn easy to use, and so secure aswell..
