hi buddies, I am going to start a webhosting business. My aim is to give quality support with cheap price. Can you please tell some of the cheapest price for domain names and hosting. I am interested to add people to my team too. Don't know how long my aim will be succeeded. Am planning to invest 400$s for now. Will it be worth for me( I have a good network though). Please share your advices. thanks.
I mean no disrespect but you need to sit down and think about what you're doing if you;re planning a quality hosting company. 1) $400 is nothing. Chances are you may be able to incorporate and obtain licensing for about that. I wouldn't start a business without incorporating first now a days. I've been setting up a test VPS on another host for the last few days only to discover that that they've been down for 36 hours. If this was a mission critical site for me, I would be suing up and down by now. If you weren't incorporated and I won the case, I'd get your house, any money you had in savings, the electronics, your spouse, first born, etc.... 2) Get an attorney, one who has experience in Internet and business matters. See above. I pay a retainer each month for mine and 9 months out of the year, we blow past those hours. 3) Get some experience. Do you know what SSH is? Do you know how to upgrade a kernel? What security problem currently exist for the software you're looking at? FreeBSD? CentOS? Linux? 4) Get ready for 3am calls from the datacenter telling you they're bringing down your server because some 21 year old soccer mom installed an unsecure script and some spammer just ran through 32 million spams through your box and wants to know what you;re going to do to prevent this from happening again before they turn the server back over to you? And what are you going to do with the soccer mom, the one who's blaming you because you can't keep her site up so folks can see pictures of her little Timmy in his new soccer uniform and she's going to send her husband down to talk to you about what you did to her, the marine that just got back from Iraq and can benchpress 800 pounds and lifted that tank out of that ditch and saved all those GIs? Gotta love soccer moms 5) Business plan? 6) Got any savings? What's going to keep you going for the first few months at the very least before you turn a profit? 7) webhosting quality support with cheap price = 1.79 million hits Need I go on?
It is next to impossible to make it in the hosting industry today. You need lots and lots of customers just to break even. I mean, you can get a hosting plan for like $5 from Bluehost or Hostgator and get unlimited bandwith, e-mails and 24 hour customer service.
Hi guys thanks for the info.. Am Running a Software - Bpo firm here in india http://www.newgenresoft.com that 400 is ma quarterly budget. and am not going to start a own server just going to share a server which is already going fine. The company (both mine the targeted host company) has a good cusomer care section already no matter when the call comes. Am a Java authorised web application developer and have MS in computer science so I hope those technical notes you have given wont affect that much badly. Ya i have some savings but not that much all my saving are my investments in business by now. yeah of course they are offering cheaper plans...But still now i did not hear from any where that (including .info domain names) somebody offering domain names cheaper than 6$ per year. Thanks for the advices and expecting more..
Webhosting is highly saturated now ... very difficult to emerge But if you can sell domain names at a cheaper rates then there is a scope of business model ... Though u may get low profits or no profits at all during the initial days u can recover it when the domain gets renewed after one year The big domain registrars are doing the same .. "Buy a .info at dirt cheap at start and pay normal amount for renewal .." And also u can club domain names and webhosting together with an exiting starting offer ...
That is a pretty saturated market. Most people rely on their hosting, if its down it costs them money, not worth going with a new kid on the block. You may find its an uphill climb.
I advise you to start small first by using reseller plan. After you have a loyal customer, then only expand to vps. For domain you can go to name.com

Yes it is saturated and a very hard business to run smoothly. I know of a few people that tried to get into hosting, they were even giving it away free to draw people in, but it didn't work..Their servers were always getting problems and they had lots and lots of hassle, so much so that they just gave up. Wasn't worth the headache! Goodluck though
Well, I have been in this business for couple of time, up and down, succeed and lost some money but hey, you got experiences. I would suggest you to learn about window and unix first, they are the most basic operating system you have to know before you can open a business. Then lease a server or if you have a good budget, lease a T1 connection to your house, buy a server ( I can give you some stores for pretty cheap prices, the best will be buying from some bankruptcy company, they always have the best servers). bring it home and operate the server on your own if you have good IT mind, then go to ebay and open your store on it first, you will need the people know about you first before they can trust you.
