I bought a proxy called goonmyspaceatschool.com (that says everything!) a few months ago and I am not very familiar with that segment of the Internet (proxies, facebook, social networks, yougsters...). This is why I am looking for ideas of places to advertise my service and to learn more about my customers (forums, directories...). Any help is of course highly appreciated.
Well, firstly I advise that you try and join in the thread in the General Business section called 'The Proxy Discussion Thread'. It's full of great info and will definately help you. Now, down to advertising. What's your budget? If you want to do it all for free, then you have a couple of options: (a) spread your proxy by word of mouth, tell all your friends and get them to tell their friends, much like viral marketing, and (b), sumbit your site to a load of free topsites. This will require that you put a link to their site on your proxy, but you also get listed on their site, so it's probably worth it. If you have a bit more to spend, then, if you want a sudden boost of traffic then you should promote to Google and Yahoo groups. If you want a steadier, but still large, flow of traffic, then you should try buying listings on well known proxy list sites. I've never actually used it, but a lot of people say that buying a bold listing on proxy.org is one of the best things you can do for your proxy.

The main problem promoting a proxy url is that the url is banned from firewalls after a while and the only traffic you receive is from China and Iran. I can redirect quality traffic to your proxy without showing the url address. See my signature and contact me .
