The trick is to get them to keep clicking. You can get them to do this by making them click in order to read the rest of an article, so you can flash them with a new ad format. For instance, if you have 468 banners on the front page, you'll have a 336 on the article page, and the difference in size/shape of your ad will draw their attention. In any case, if they don't feel like clicking in order to read the full article after reading the first 100 words, then they weren't interested in staying anyway, so it's doubtful they'll click on any ads, but instead just hit the back button. People uninterested in what a site has to offer after finding it via another source always just hits the back button.
