I would put a adsense banner above the images on right hand side. Between the main site image and the 3 below. This way your ads show up when page loads and people do not have to scroll down the page to see firts ones.
Have you tried Crazyegg? Run a test and with the help of teh heatmap you can see where visitors mostly stay with their cursors. Put teh ads close to those places
