I have a blog about soccer. I currently get about 1000-3000 visits daily but i only make about $1 each day! is it the placement of my ads thats the problem? should i change the color of the ads? link: http://highbury1913.blogspot.com
I think the problem is where your traffic comes from - most comes from a news aggregator Arsenalworld and Newsnow, which means your user are there just to read on that particular news that interest them in the 1st place. BTW, these kind of soccer blog are quite mostly low conversion rate types, and not to mention the $$ per click.
I run quite a few monetized blogs, and they'll generally have lower CTR than basic websites. If people go to your site looking for some casual information, the blog is the worst system for getting them to where they need to go. Blogs that succeed financially do so because of their return users who are truly interested in reading your regular updates. You might want to consider combining your blog with an actual soccer information site -- better indexing, easier navigation, etc. Your site looks good, I'd consider blending the ads a little better. I put my ads after the title and before the main text usually. If the ads are relevant, the CTR goes way up -- if the ads aren't relevant, the CTR falls to below 1%. Also, soccer may not be the highest paying adsense topic -- yet! Stick with it, give it time. My eCPM has gradually climbed since I started in November, slowly but steadily. I don't get as many impressions as you do, but my income is decent.
I don't know if it's possible with blogger, but if it is I'd stick 1 or 2 more 468 ads between your posts.
I have a 468 ad beneath the first post in my blog which is the top earner of the 3 ads I use. Of course, I just put it out as a suggestion...
You could try sticking a 336x280 right below the post in individual post pages. Visitors who come directly to individual posts mostly just read that post and leaves. So the large rect right below the post converts quite well for me.
