Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan called crisis talks that may authorize a cross-border military offensive after Kurdish terrorists killed at least 12 Turkish soldiers in an ambush on Sunday near the Iraqi border. The attack, one of the worst in more than a decade by rebels of the outlawed PKK terrorist organization, came four days after the Ankara parliament backed a motion allowing troops to enter northern Iraq to fight terrorists hiding there. "We are very angry... Our parliament has granted us the authority to act and within this framework we will do whatever has to be done," Erdogan said at an Istanbul polling station after voting in Sunday's referendum on constitutional changes. Erdogan said military and government officials would meet at 8 pm (1 p.m. EDT) under the chairmanship of President Abdullah Gul at the presidential palace to decide how Turkey should respond. Turkey's military general staff said 12 soldiers and 23 terrorists were killed in Sunday's clashes. Security sources had said earlier at least 13 Turkish soldiers had been killed. In another incident on Sunday, a landmine killed one civilian and wounded at least 13 more in a minibus traveling near to where the soldiers were killed. for more: http://edition.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/meast/10/22/turkey.kurds/index.html http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7056151.stm
I'm wondering why does CNN&BBC named PKK as "Kurdish Rebels"? PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by UK, US, EU and NATO. But media is afraid to use "terror" and "terrorist" words in their news. There is no rebel movement or upraising in the area... Turkey is not fight against Kurdish people. It's a shame for those media giants...
Possibly because we were told by the administration 'kurdish rebels' were these not the same ones that helped us in the beginning of the war? When a group is on your side a terrorist can suddenly become an ally This isn't new at all, has been going on since before the Iraq war and was one of the things the experts warned us about. Nobody however cared to listen for the most part, it was simply 'terror, terror, terror' and get Saddam. Backlash was sure to come and here is yet another form of it. BTW there is no uprising in the area as we for the most part let them alone, unlike the other areas of the country.
Thats simple, they are US based, and you know what Bush thinks about it. The most neutral media? Yeah, right.... I smell a war there.
But that makes USA a terorist... Being allies with a terrorist organization... What happened to Bush's motto: "Global war on terrorism"? PKK is using US Army weapons. Turkish Foreign Ministery asked USA about these weapons, and they said they are stolen. Why can't US Army get back those stolen weapons =)... Yep, you're right... I smell a war too.
A terrorist is a terrorist depending on what side of the fence you sit on. I do not support helping them, don't get me wrong. It's simply the way the game works.
The problem is, I just can't figure out USA's side. As you can see here, they listed PKK as a terrorist organization. But they also support them by using media. (or stolen! weapons)
Ive heard on TV today, that Kurds or whoever blowed that bridge will say officially to not attack turkish troops? Maybe that will stop it.
Nope my friend. Kurds supported US against Saddam, PKK != Kurds. Turkey is not fighting against Kurds. Turkey is supporting Kurds by giving electricity, food etc. Again I need to state PKK is a terrorist organization which hasn't got any relation with the Kurdish people. Again, Kurds had never attack Turkish troops, and Turkish troops never attacked Kurds. PKK != Kurds. PKK, ambushed Turkish troops while crossing a river, with rocket launchers. 12 of them is dead, 8 troops are still missing. Turkish Army gave over 40+ loss in last two weeks.
You are incorrect, the PKK supported the US as well. http://newsblaze.com/story/20070702153151payn.nb/topstory.html If you don't find much there or believe it do some searches there are plenty more. I remember watching the Iraq build up, and the war experts from around the world questioned the US allying with the PKK as they were labeled 'terrorists'..
How can a terrorist organization support a country? How can USA make relations with a terrorist organization? Is it how USA deal with terrorists?
PKK also has a sister called PJAK which terrorize Iran, so basicly they are family-wise serving the US interest. This is bringing a war between Turkey vs terrorists and its' supporters, but well.. bring it on.
As explained already, a terrorist is only a terrorist if you're on the wrong side of the fence. For further definition http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_fighter
I can cleary see what you're saying. You said PKK isn't terrorist for USA. But it's still in USA's Foreing Terrorist Organizations List and, it's still in NATO's Terrorist Organizations list. What the heck is going on?
Politics, it's a messy business. I do not support helping the PKK and never did. It is funny that some against terrorism turn a blind eye to instances such as this. I agree with you, all I can say is it's shameful.
It's playing this game of using terrorists against democratically elected governments that causes blowback and unintended consequences.
France , Belgium , Germany support them by finacial. PKK(terrorist) has many office in these countries and plus these countries save PKK(terrorist)'s staff... Usa seem to hate PKK(terrorist) but gives 196,000 weapons and named it .we have stolen...USA army lost 196,000 weapons . Could you believe it? These Countries are Turkey' Allies on desk..When do you wanna learn to say terrorist PKK and when do you stop to support them?? Turkey never and never suport ETA,IRA,Al-Kaide etc...and always be side by side these countries...PKK has killed victims for 24 years...They killed doctor, engineers, teachers, children, old people http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ybz0E022OAU&mode=related&search= http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgPHe8e2x_A Now Europe and USA doesnt wanna look real picture...But Turkey never forget these.... one day these countries will understand my words...and one day CNN learn how to say PKK Terrorist...
i will say hypocrite. they will say terrorist to any organistation they'll see it fit with their business. most the hijackers in9/11 are from saudi arabia, and why the hell US attack iraq not saudi arabia? hypocrite.
