Alex Tew (the creator of the world's famous Million Dollar Homepage), has now launched Pixelotto as all of you might know! I was just curious as to what people think - have people lost interest in his latest project? http://www.pixelotto.com I was quite surprised to see that the mark has not gone over $150,200 in 3 days now.
Ha ha. I hadn't thought to check Alexa.. he's been stuf at just under $150K for ages now. Like many people predicted, it hasn't worked nearly as successfully as his first venture, mainly because it's just the same.
Still there has to be a lot of folks out there not familiar with the first go round.. I love that page. Cool to look through all those different little banners err boxes I noticed somebody is flying the freebird at the bottom
Yea WTF was that kid thinking. I mean, he's already made a good chunk of change, but what a disappointment. Lightning doesn't strike twice, especially not on the web.
It's a great followup. The chances of him selling all the pixels are next to nothing; so the chances of him having to payout the million dollars are next to nothing as well.
Last time the media interest, and the buzz and the fact that he had a good story helped him. Sadly, its not the case anymore! I personally think he might start heavily promoting this website on radio, but I really do not think it will hit ground as the first one! Great ideas can also fail!
I would exactly call this a failure. Even if he doesn't sell all the pixels he gives away 60% of the money (half for the lottery, 10% for charity) This leaves him in the neighborhood of $60,000 revenue. Not too bad.
The pot was over $150,000 but is now down to $149,800. The TOS says no refunds but some advertisers have been able to drop out. The latest refund was apparently 200 pixels ($1,000) to Alex's brother. https://www2.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=510443176383589321&postID=8000632051569127366
Exactly, what ever happens he has not lost out. I doubt running Pixel Lotto is anything like a full time job.
