the true thing is, the largest is in Malaysia, shame, but here, you can see people sell the pirated cd, almost any software available on earth, in one large shopping market called lowyat, even the enforcer could do almost nothing about it, money speaks the way it is ..

    whats stupid is this:

ive had about 12 machines in in the past 2 weeks with the non-genuine message up in start up and on the desktop - all the people who have bought them in essentially knew thier "friends copy" of XP on a cd-r wasn't genuine, whether they care to admit it or not - but heres the kicker - people have offered me more money than a genuine copy just to "fix it", but didnt want to buy the genuine disc/license that i first offered them - wtf?!?!

people just dont make sense - now im just giving them genuine disc&sticker and changing the serial on thier existing install - and still charging them more to teach them a lesson

Microsoft has dealt with this situation pretty well. They are playing with the human mind . Their chances of success are pretty good ,and many I think will convert. The human mind has a strange way of reacting to things and if that message flashes day in and day out, most people will either buy a licensed version or shift to another OS.The former is more possible given the kind of support offered the Windows OS in comparison to the Linux OS,say.

But Microsoft makes tons of money and given the monopoly it enjoys in the OS market,I still do not understand why they are not willing to address that steep price tag, especially in developing countries. If that price is brought closer to what the pirates sell it at,more people will be encouraged to give up piracy.Microsoft itself knows the revenue it misses out on by piracy.

I'd still like Google to come up with an OS of its own with the same compatibilty with a reduced price tag. That will set the cat among the pigeons. :D ;)

U can just disable it with a quick google search and it provides a guide on how to disable it.

a edit of the registry and deletion of some files in safe mode and your pirated version is back to working like it use to.

PS. I do own the original thou the piece of shit wont reg anymore and I cant be FU*()( contacting M$ about getting it to work again. (people have told me to get it working again I probbaly have to contact M$)

I think its cause I installed it a million times.

Thank God for the creation of a burner. lol

While I am proud to say all the software i use is legit and paid for at one time it wasn't this way.... and most people that are using a pirated version know it and won't run windows updates anyways... if you don't run update you wont get the message.... again as others stated you should by your software... but also i can feel for other people that can't afford it... for those in college or hs you can get student versions for much cheaper!! :)

by the cd-key it is unique.

You can probbaly borrow your mates cd key and use it but once it reaches a certain amount of reg's it gets disabled or something. I dont know how it works but mine stopped working after 6 reg's or something. My computer use to be virus and torrent prone + a spice of adware (?) to make windows fun.

Thats where the crack comes into play where it takes away the need to authenticate it or whateva it is.

you forgot 1 option they can remove the notice.

BTW this was done like 2 weeks - a month ago. As thats when I got it.

I think they might have gotten more people to buy the original software after this update than there was to begin with. I was tempted to buy another copy but thought fuck it they will crack it and I just find the name of the progy that caused the notice and I did a search on google which yielded some results.

That is the big thing. I have known a lot of computer builders and free-lance tech guys who will install pirated oses on a clients machine without a second thought.

I suspect there are some suprised people out there.

The reason they don't just lock everyone out is because they know there are a lot of pirated installs out there and it would create a much bigger mess for them than it would solve. You would have a lot of installs, a significant portion through ignorance, that no longer worked. People are not going to go, "Oh I didn't know, good going Microsoft." They are going to say, "I DIDN'T KNOW! W@((#(@#(@( Microsoft".

Personally I have to PCs and one has authentic and the other one has a pirated version. I think that a lot of people have the authentic version because it comes with the pc when they buy it. I built my pc but don’t think there are that many people still doing that especially because people prefer to buy laptops nowadays. Anyway this month I’m going to buy another laptop and get rid of this pc.
