pings in WP 2.0

    Hi, i am unable to figure out what is meant by or function of 'ping' in WP 2.

    A ping is a blog's way of telling certain directories (technorati, for example) when a blog has been updated. This causes (or should cause) the directory to spider the new post each time a blog is updated.
