Hi, I just learned how important this pinging thing so that search engines will automatically see the changes in my blog. my question is is it just my blog that needs to be pinged? should I ping each url where my blog has a backlink just like this post that I just made? is it effective? how often should i do the pinging?
If it is just a blog that you are running, just use a tool like Pingler to ping it, but dont do it too often (Please dont to it 5 times a day!!). Remember as well, if you are using WordPress, you can add a list of services to ping every time that your blog is updated, this should be in settings under Misc I believe. Now, if you are updating several times a day, there are other plug ins that are available that will make sure that you dont ping too many times too frequently. I wish I still had the link, but there are plenty of them available, and they are easy to find.
it appears that google has indexed my website but there is no backlink yet why? is it because google can not see where my backlinks are?
To see backlinks, Google has to also crawl those other sites, so yes, this can take time. Just be patient with it. Without patience, we wouldnt be very good at what we do. Pinging notifies certain services that we have updated out blogs/websites. THis can either be done automatically by CMS systems such as WordPress, or can be done manually in order to send the bots to our website using tools such as Pingler.
ping the url of your individual blog post, not the homepage. Some of the smaller search engines may take a few days to crawl your blog, by then it will crawl the newest blog post, and likely to miss out the older blog post. Make it a habit to ping every time u update the blog.
Pinging used to be useful but it's useless now. The only site you should be pinging is google. Originally pining your site would make these ping sites index your new article and when google crawed the ping sites it would index your article. But due to the amount of spam that gets pinged, Google has learnt not to give any weight to those sites and it won't get your site indexed any faster. Pinging Google however helps get your article into google faster, but only if your blog has some authority. You need to already be known to Google for it to work - the more authority you have, the faster you'll appear in the index. Authority is not the same as pagerank.
This is all true, pinging used to be very helpful especially with blogs. It honestly doesn't do much anymore, all it does is speed up the process of what was going to happen anyways if you waited a few hours.
Pinging can be helpful when indexing, for example you dump a link at digg or reddit, when you ping it, it notifies google and registers as a backlink, indexing you
I do agree Pinging used to be helpful in indexing but right now I guess Google have not used the said method anymore since it seems useless now...But I wonder if Pinging and trackback is just the same thing?
if your blog based on wordpress.org it is not need to pinging, because wordpress engine pinging automatically when you click publish or update. but if your blog engine not wordpress or something like blogspot, it should pinging, because blogspot does not pinging your site automatically
