Pinging pages question

When you update a page do you submit just the page you updated or the site's main index page?

I've already pinged the index page about a week ago, but I just updated one of the html pages.

you don't do anything, you just wait until the spiders come again. Unless you're doing a blog thing, you could ping for the actual post/page

 

Yeah that sounds right I think. I remembered someone mentioning pinging the site or page again whenever they updated, but yeah I think it was a blog post.

don't waste time in pinging I have never really understood why you need to ping so much anyway and what advantage it gives ?

 

My web site is crawled at least weekly without pinging. Is there any value to pinging for non-blog sites?

Well I know there's other ways or even submitting them manually to get the search engines to notice new sites, but I usually get Google, Yahoo, MSN and a few other bots in a couple of days if I submit them to autopingler.com
