Pinging my blogs… still effective?

Is pinging effective? I ping all my new blogs but not really sure if they do anything. Its just the press of a button so not a big deal but are all these sites indexing my blogs for real?

 

I think it's still effective because search engines would be informed about your blog..

If your site is regularly visited by the bots, then I think this is not necessary. I seldom ping my sites...

I am indexed but not ranked and am trying to determine whether "pinging" will help me...

 

Pinging is not indexing. Pinging is alerting search engines that something on your website has changed and they should come look at it. Some blogs can be set up to automatically ping to whichever pinging services you choose when you make updates. WordPress is one of these blogs. If you can't set up your blog to automatically ping, just ping it once after you update something.

 

If you've a "good" blog and ping when you post, google will index the post within seconds. But have in mind, if your blog is crap, it will take longer time of course.

It seems like yes it is important. But, you will still get indexed eventually. Some search engines only list sites that have links pointing to them. I dont worry about this because the service that I use does this automatically and I dont start new websites that often.

 

how about pinging backlinks? Effective? Worth it?

 

That's what most WordPress blogs get better than standard sites, everytime a new post is made, it gets pinged. It's a nice way to get your articles indexed, not to get ranked though. Pinging is one though, promoting & link building are different, much harder aspects, but they should be taken care of too.

 

It really depends on how you go about it. If you ping each backlink, one by one, then I'd say it's a huge waste of time. Now if you compile the URLs as you go and turn them into an RSS feed before pinging, then you're much better off.

 

It is similar to resubmitting a sitemap in Google webmaster. When u ping, u tell Google that some change you have made in the website which they can come and crawl. But I feel, social bookmarking in this case is more effective as it helps for longer period of time and can even get you page rank.

I want to know whether this is true or traditional pinging methos is still very effective...
