Pinging My Blog: Not getting any traffic from it. Help

    Hello,

I have a very nice blog, in a niche category. It is unrelated to technology however. My probem is I am using a bunch of ping services, pingmatic and pingoat, and a bunch others - And I have yet to recieve even one hit from this technique... Many sites claim this is a great way to get hits. How come I am not? Is it because my blog is not technology related and/or my posts don't have very persuasive titles? That is the only thing I can think of I am doing wrong. Can someone give me some advice? Why no traffic from this?

Have you manually submitted to each of the services that get pinged. It could be that your pings are falling on deaf ears as they only respond to sites that they know about.

You might get better advice if we could review your blog but as far as pinging goes I don’t see any changes myself.

Make your post title relevant to subject using key phrases but try and make them grab peoples attention. Using key phrases can help you with the search engines and can bring in great traffic. Catching people’s attention will have people blogging about you, which can also become great traffic.

Link to other blogs relevant on your topic and take timeout to read other blogs and make relevant comments, using your URI in your name of course. This way your building up relationships with other bloggers who will start making comments on yours and hopefully blogging about posts - that is if they are interested.

It's hard to get traffic if you don't have any good traffic to give to your visitors. Submit your website to different places related to your niche and take the time to post at forums too. You don't have to be writing about technology to be read. Just some good content, unique and links from many websites related to your niche.

    Wait a second-
I use the pinging services which do ping all the sites listed above, however I have NOT individually 'singed' up at all those sites. Is that my problem? Are you certain I have to do that?

Yes you need to *Sign Up with Them*...

Pinging in you case is a waste of time cause no other sites know yours is even out there...

Have you also signed up with all the Search Engines???, have you signed up with Online Directories that offer Categories related to Blogs???...

If not no one knows you are on the Web, 'cept for those you have told...

That catch my blog thing is pretty new, my site is #188 and there's spam in there. Certainly not an authority site just yet and while it looks good it's not as fully featured as Digg so the comparison is a bit premature.

well, the point in registering is that they'll have you listed on a unique page where you can add a link to your blog which will increase your chances of getting spidered later on. More links going towards your blog generally equals more visitors.

No, the point to registering them is that many of the services/directories only respond to pings for sites that they know about. Therefore your pings could be falling on deaf ears.

Yes, by registering you get extra listings but you can do that at any old directory.

The point of pinging these particular services is to let them know you are active and to be spidered with fresh content etc. And you register so that they will "hear" the ping.

well, I'm registered to none and I get quite enough traffic from technorati for example (which is contained in the default wordpress ping list)

Sure, being registered gives you "better" chances of being spidered as you are a member and you provided a link to your website, but there isn't really much more than that.

Anyway, feel free to register to all of them, you'll at least get the link I talked about.

I personally have yet to find a need to ping anything. Going through all this trouble and trying to ping tons of different places won't get you traffic. Word of mouth, regular content, and TIME are what it takes to build a decent following.

Only certain services, mostly the specialty ones like blogshares, require registration. I've got links coming from ping sites I've never even heard of like icerocket.

And do you get any good traffic from them? I'd guess yes. Could you give an approximate of how much of your traffic though?

The only one that gives me worthwhile traffic is Technorati, which happens to be one my biggest traffic referrers outside of search engines. The other ones are hardly a blip, literally double digits in a month, but hey, traffic's traffic :D
