    You can ping your blog if you have a new post on it to let search engine crawl and index your new blog post.

    You need to ping a blogger blog, if you use a wordpress blog it automatically pings.

    For blogger blogs you can use

    http://kping.com to ping the blog.

    Blog pinging technique is used for letting SE spider to inform that there is something new in ur blog surely it can increase ur index posts/pages.

    If u r using wordpress, then there this option is available if u select that check box.

    Yes pinging is good. Do not over do it or the Blog might be banned by that ping server.
