I keep getting pingbacks to my blog. Which I have to approve.

Should I approve them or just delete them?

Of course you should approve them. Pingbacks are other blogs who like your article and are devoting an entire post to link back to your blogs post. This can bring you traffic, backlinks, and some PR juice along with it. Pingbacks are nothing but good, so always accept

I would not completely agree with you on this. Pingback spam has been a recent headache for many webmasters including me. There are many people who are indulged in spam pingbacks without any relevance to the original article. Many people have been recently using this ping spam to get backlinks from other blogs. I would say that please check the link of the pingback to check if its genuine before approving the pingback.

How can I tell if its a genuine pingback?

I mean all the pingbacks I have just lead to their blog with a post with the first few lines of my blog post then a link to the rest of my blog post.

    Is that normal?

I personally don't approve non-relevant ping backs (spam). You can tell it's spam when the blog that mentions your article is just a bunch of aggregated feeds or just picked up a couple of key words. On a SEO level, I'm not sure whether they are bad or not but I just don't see the point of keeping spammy stuffs on my blog.

And of course, I keep relevant ping backs!

If it ads value to your visitor experience then it makes sense to approve them, if not then don't.

Assuming that the site that is linking back to me has some good content and is a relevant article to my own, I will approve the pingback/trackback. As already mentioned, spam using pinbacks are the latest craze, so it's best to visit the site that is linking to you and decide yourself.

Click the link and see 1) if there's a link to your article and 2) is their article relevant to what you;re discussing.
