    Hey Everyone,

I have just started my own weblog, see signature for link, and heard about pinging.

Now I want to get a few things straight.

By pinging do I get inbound links? I heard the pages are going to other sites and then get indexed there?

and will I get alot of traffic through pinging?

And how many sites should I ping to, and which are the top best?

    Thank you for your time!

You should ping these services once each time you post a new entry.
If you use one of the 2 services suggested by sandossu you already collect a list of the best pings.

    Read more here: ipings.com/article/1/To_ping_or_not_to_ping_.html

An article I wrote for iPings.com, a XML-RPC based pinging service.

    It's not spamming - it's progress.

If you look deeper into the internet's history (and not only), progress has always had a sad part.

When we had email, we were happy, and there was the email spam - the dark side of this tremendous progress.

Now we have blogs, that's how we name them. Actually it's pure CMS, but web 2.0 era has to call them blogs.

Now, it happens the same way. We have blogs, we have spam.

Windows... looks fun, but it can be broken by a virus....

    Same with humans

When we were unicellular entites, we didn't got any diseases. But when we turned into monkeys or whatever, the progress thought us that viruses can break us down

That's progress, don't blame pings for that, or for my headache :)

Each good thing has a dark side, otherwise, we'd be living in heaven, isn't it? :p

The only ping you need is:

http://rpc.pingomatic.com (This should be in WordPress under Options, Writing, Update Services)

pinging from both services will have this result: you ping same services two times - which is bad and looks spammy...
