I've read that you should ping directories to increase traffic to your site. I know what pinging is, at least from a networking standpoint at the dos prompt. However how do you ping from your site, and how would this benefit you?
It won't, and if you are caught, its VERY easy even if you are behind a proxy! you are in deep doo doo. don't bother. Be honest about things and qualified traffic and respect will follow.
Good to know it's black hat, now seeing that you know what it is. What is it and how does it work? Still curious. Is it pinging the same way I would ping to see if I can see a URL? What is the rationale about that supposing to help?
Hi there M8, with the greatest respect we are hardly likely to offer a turorial on the subject now are we! Hope you had a good Xmas.
Pinging directories? I think you mean pinging a blog service about the blog update etc??? :confused Well, below is a list of RSS Ping Sites: RSS Ping Sites - http://rpc.pingomatic.com/ - http://www.a2b.cc/setloc/bp.a2b - http://api.feedster.com/ping - http://api.my.yahoo.com/RPC2 - http://api.my.yahoo.com/rss/ping - http://www.blogdigger.com/RPC2 - http://www.blogshares.com/rpc.php - http://www.blogsnow.com/ping - http://www.blogstreet.com/xrbin/xmlrpc.cgi - http://coreblog.org/ping/ - http://ping.blo.gs/ - http://ping.feedburner.com - http://ping.syndic8.com/xmlrpc.php - http://ping.weblogalot.com/rpc.php - http://www.popdex.com/addsite.php - http://rpc.blogrolling.com/pinger/ - http://rpc.technorati.com/rpc/ping - http://rpc.weblogs.com/RPC2 - http://topicexchange.com/RPC2 - http://xping.pubsub.com/ping/ - http://api.my.yahoo.com/rss/ping - http://api.moreover.com/ping - http://rpc.icerocket.com:10080/
I've got no clue who you would ping to let someone know your directory is updated? That makes no sense at all.
mdvaldosta, westhaven I'm guessing you guys are right, I seen a post in another thread mentioning that and it didn't make sense to me either. So am I correct in assuming that pinging one of these services, just tells it that you have a new post to your blog so that they will pick it up or send traffic to you? This is probably the same pinging you do for networking purposes only the site logs the ping and adds you to a Que.
Yea something like that. You let them know you're blog's been updated and they'll usually do stuff like add your site to the top of their recently updated list, maybe show the latest posts on their homepage, stuff like that.
