well i read some of the posts here, and i found that what i'm gonna ask might seem little different form what most people are asking here,

simple as this, i wanna know how i come accross many blogs that have tons of images in them, where did they get them? usually from other places online? is it legal to get any picture and put it on my blog (is this considered personal non commercial use - though i make money from my blog)

i dont know if what i'm asking is quite clear, well i wanna give some example of what i mean.

http://stevegilliard.blogspot.com/ - some of the images have a tiny notice under them with their source, others don't have any, how legal is that, can i make the same in my blog?

http://fashion-fabulous.blogspot.com/ - got many pictures for:
1- single products --> some have no copyright notice ( is it ok to publish a photo of a product?)
2- celebrities or photos of certain events -> some have the water mark "gitty images" -> does that make it legal to post them on any blog?
3- magazine covers -> what about them?

    http://mcnamerica.blogspot.com/ - celebrities' photos
was it ok for the blog author to publish such photos

well those were random blogs, and i'll be glade if you could explain the above cases for me, and tell me where i can get legal free photos to post on my blog.

    thanks for the help everyone

You can't use anyone's picture without their permission. On my sexmate blog 99% of the pictures are used illegally. On the others it's about 20%

Make your own digital photos, or scan some of your traditional ones and edit them for your blog. That way there will be no copyright infringment problem.

so what i can understand from that, what those website i listed are doing with photos is illegal?

concerning scanning my own photos, do u think this will make sense for celebrities for example? it looks like a good solution but not a very practical one.

    any more suggestions?

Most people might allow you to use their pics on your site in exchange for links.
    Ask them...

where does editorial work come into play? If I wanted to talk about People magazine on a vlog, is it ok to hold up the magazine and show it? Do network news reporters get copyright privileges when there is a shooting at a McDonald's -and their logo is shown on television during the on-site story?

I've have heard of editorial conditions where you can use logos, but would like to learn more if anyone has a good link for me.

There are free stock photo sites like Free Range Stock that allow this usage:

Image copyright isn't all that complicated, basically it can be summed up in one sentence:
"If you don't have permission from the creator to use the image, don't use it!".

You can only use images that are in the public domain (don't assume this is the case if you find it on the WWW) or from people that gave you explicit permission to use the image on your site.

You can't go about scanning images from magazines and then posting them on your site. Those images are copyrighted and those mags pay thousands of dollars to be able to use the image.

The image doesn't need to have a copyright notice to be copyrighted. All images are copyrighted as soon as they are created. Unless it is specifically stated that you can use the image or that it is in the public domain, you are not allowed to use it.

Also don't try the "If this image is yours and you want us to remove it, please contact us" excuse. That doesn't hold any value at all. It is not the copyright holder's responsibility to police the use of his images. If you don't have permission, don't put it on your site!

    Hello,

Well, since I am having a problem with some of my images I use in on of my sites, I would like to know what can I do: in this case I have an handicraft related site where I sell handmade products (made by my family). But after the site got some exposure, I am seeing that lots of other handicraft people are downloading my pictures and using them as if they were the owners. For instance, the last thing i found was an handicraft woman selling in brazilian ebay (mercadolivre) using 3 of my product images. Even if I have some of them with watermark, she cut part of it and erased some parts. So, what do you think I can do? Because it is really frustating. In this case it is not only using it in sites, they are changing them and selling as the produtcs were made by them. In on post here I read that some people have their copyright information on the photos. What does that mean? It is written in the photo surface ( like a watermark)?

Thanks in adance for you help and information.

    Best regards
