Hello, just a general question. How do you make an image blend properly on any background (such as removing the white area or other parts of picture).

I want to be able to take a picture of a person - with the person only and put it on an ebook cover or header for example.

    Please help thanks

Theres no simple solution you can use filters and lasso tool in adobe photoshop for instance but both require to manually edit the photo in order to get a very good result. Ie manually going around the person and cutting out the image or using filters if possible to extract the image then refine that further manually.

It takes a alot of work to get perfect high quality results and you need to be somewhat skilled with graphics programes

Yeah, lasso is how i've always done it. Adobe Photoshop CS5 has a new feature though called "Content Awareness" which performs some unimaginable feats. This "Content Awareness" can actually recognize what part of an image you're wanting, and can pretty much auto-select the part you're wanting to have, with a few tweaks.

But until CS5 comes out, he Polygonal Lasso tool is going to be your best bet. Small, precise clicks.

I've used paint shop pro before which is cheap and gives a good result, but as the previous posts have said it does take time

There's several ways to do this, but the best is to probably make a path with the pen tool. Just trace what you want using that, then you'll be able to extract it from the background via your paths window. I like doing it that way because it seems to be the cleanest method and you can save the paths if you need them in the future.
